Hands & Feet of Jesus

Members of LMMC are involved in local, national, and global missions. It is our belief that wherever there is human need, the church is called to mission. We are the hands and feet of Jesus and the agents of God's love and grace to all people.

Alabama Honduras Medical education network

Lester Memorial actively supports mission work in Honduras by sending people, prayers, food, eyeglasses, and financial support. The “It’s a God Thing Team” annually travels to Honduras and provides free eye exams and eyeglasses to the people of this extremely poor nation while at the same time spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. We provide Spanish Bibles and prayer on site and work with local pastors to ensure that new church relationships continue after the team returns home. Additionally, we support a home and education for at-risk teenage girls as well as a local orphanage.

Blessings in a backpack

Many families with children in Oneonta struggle with having enough food. While schools can assist with free breakfast and lunch programs, these are not available on the weekends. Lester Memorial has partnered with other local churches to provide food for children in need, so they have nourishment on the weekends too. We purchase food, pack an individual bag for each child, then deliver the bags to the school where the staff place them in the child’s backpack to take home.

FEED MY SHEEP

Many senior citizens in our area are reliant on Meals on Wheels for nutritious meals during the week. However, meals are not provided through the weekend. Through the ministry of Feed My Sheep we are able to provide supplemental food for shut-in senior citizens in Oneonta. Servants from Lester pack enough food for meals each weekend. We partner with the Oneonta Senior Citizen Center to identify and deliver the food to those in need.

Senegal

Lester Memorial has made several trips to Dakar Senegal to partner with the Senegal UMC. Anna Goode and Edouard Ndecky began a children’s ministry when Anna was a missionary in Dakar. This ministry grew to churches in the areas around Dakar. The ministry provided day camps, feeding programs, and education for the children. There was also an outreach to the children in the streets of Dakar. Since their return to Oneonta, Anna and Edouard have led teams from Lester to work with the children’s ministry. In addition to the children’s ministry, we have partnered with the UM church to provide salary support for the pastors of the United Methodist churches in Senegal. We are grateful to be able to share God’s love with the people of Senegal.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace Oneonta Chapter is a charity that provides twin beds to children who don’t have beds of their own. We service kids ages 3 to 17 years old in Blount County. We partner with organizations, churches, businesses and individuals to build the beds. We are a group of volunteers dedicated to getting kids off the floor. We provide suitable beds, mattresses and bedding to each kid. Through the wonderful efforts of volunteers and generous donations, bunk beds are built, assembled and delivered to those kids who are otherwise sleeping on couches, blankets or even floors. Our mission at SHP is that no kid sleeps on the floor in our town.
